Competitive Soccer Program 2007 FAQ’s
Q…How do I know if my child is good enough to play competitive
soccer?
A…Your child will be evaluated at tryouts based on five categories…Technical
ability (dribbling, passing, shooting, and control), Tactical (Understanding
of the game), Defending, Attacking, and Speed.
Q…When do we find out if my child made the team and when
do we sign up?
A…You will receive a call within a few days of tryouts stating
if your child has made the team. You must attend a mandatory Registration
Night to sign up your child to play Wave. Your team manager will
notify you of the date you will attend and will give you a packet
with sign up materials to be turned in on Registration Night.
Q…How long is the season?
A…Practices start in April or May although the actual league
season begins August 25, 2007 and ends around the middle of November.
Pre-season tournaments are usually played in the months of May -
July. Post-season tournaments can begin in late November and play
through February. The club and each team 's coach decides which
tournaments will be attended. Older teams (U15 and up) will stop
league play during the High School soccer season.
Q…How many days will they practice each week?
A…Most teams practice twice each week. The younger (U10 and
below) tend to practice for an hour and a half and the older (U11
and up) tend to practice two hours. However, this will be determined
by your coach. Weekly or Bi-weekly clinics will also be provided
and the players are required to atttend. Clinics might add another
practice day to your week.
Q…Does my child have to attend every practice?
A…Yes and No. Your child should attend every practice, however,
summer vacations and sickness tend to be the main reason why your
child may miss practice.
Q…Will missed practices affect my child’s playing
time?
A…It could, especially if they miss practices frequently.
When you play competitive you make a commitment to the coach and
the other players on the team. The children are learning at such
a fast pace that if there are a lot of missed practices it will
affect your child’s skills and understanding of the game as
well as their playing time.
Q…Is there traveling involved in competitive?
A…The league we play in includes only San Diego County/a few
Riverside County teams. You will play 12 to 14 games and 6 to 7
of those games will be played on our home fields in North County.
The current home fields are Buena Vista, Calavera Park, Pine Field
and Magnolia Elementary. Tournament travel time is determined by
your coach. More extensive traveling may be required for pre and
post season tournaments.
Q…What is required of the Team Manager position?
A…The Manager position is a key position in our club. The
estimated time for the volunteer position is 20 hours per month.
You will be responsible for collecting monies due for tournaments,
working with your coach to register for tournaments, registering
your team for Presidio League, attending all competitive meetings,
which are held once per month and last approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
